Persona 5 - Good, but overrated?
Considering I've made a few posts so far , I'm surprised that I haven't made a game review yet. Well, let's start by getting people mad! So... Persona 5, it's a game, and it's heavily loved throughout many communities, whether that be the actual Persona community, the smash community, or just the PlayStation community. Many people love it's story and visual appeal, and say it's one of the best modern day RPGs. I have to disagree however. Oh it's not a bad game, in fact I think it's a pretty good game, but I think it's nowhere near the level it's praised at. People praise this game for being great or even perfect! This to me is majorly overrating the game. This is because while I played the game, I noticed several key things that took me away from loving this game like most others. To start off, the gameplay. Now many people love Persona's gameplay since it's a mix between a normal turn based RPG, and stealth games. Now I have no problem with that, but my main problem with the gameplay is outside of the battling. My main problem with the gameplay is how simulated it is. I feel like most of the things you do outside of battling are just boring. Basically you go around the city talking to your confidants, and when you talk to them you make decisions or do events to up your relationship levels with them which can help you with future battles. This sounds fine until you realize that when you talk to them and do events, that's it! You don't even play minigames or anything that you can actually play, you just mainly scroll through text or just cut back after the event. This in games tends to make me mad, let me do something! I don't want to watch a movie, I want to play a game! Going back to the confidant system, it sucks! Most of the time you have to guess what options to choose and if you choose an option that might make sense, and it's wrong, you get nothing or even lose confidant points! This makes some parts frustrating since it seems you get punished for no reason. Going off of that rant, we go to our second problem, the characters. This at first doesn't seem that bad, but as you play through the game you realize some major characters and confidants don't really do that much. Rather that be not giving good effects in battle or just not getting any screen time to develop a real character. Now onto my final problem with Persona 5, and that is Persona 5 Royal. Yes this is a problem because this game improves a lot of stuff like characters and adding new minigames to play, that's great, but why couldn't you just do that originally? Why make people who already bought the game, buy the same game with a few improves at full cost. This to me shows that the developers knew that their game wasn't that polished, so they rushed out a few improvements not as DLC, but as a new game to make even more money. This just makes the original look worse since there is a better version! Why buy it when another better version exists! It basically just makes the original pointless and makes people who bought it look stupid! Anyways, there you go, my first game review for this blog. Like I said earlier, Persona 5, it's a game, it exists, and that's really all I have to say. It exists but there is a better version for almost the exact same price, so basically the original is pointless, don't buy it! Overall, the rating I give is a 3.5/5. It's a good game, but just get Royal, or in fact just get better RPGs that are out there!
